The WNC: MADE X MTNS Partnership
WNC: MADE X MTNS Partnership is working to expand the outdoor economy across North Carolina’s Appalachian region by building vibrant outdoor communities, driving outdoor industry expansion, and increasing market access and recognition for Western North Carolina’s companies and rural towns. Its footprint includes the counties of Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Cherokee, Clay, Cleveland, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, McDowell, Macon, Madison, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Surry, Swain, Transylvania, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yancey, as well as the Qualla Boundary.
About the Partnership
MADE X MTNS partners span industry, education, finance and economic development.
The MADE X MTNS Partnership is driven by Mountain BizWorks and includes collaborative efforts of the Outdoor Gear Builders of Western North Carolina, Western Carolina University, Burke Development Inc., Graham County Economic Development, Mitchell County Economic Development Commission, the Southwestern Commission, Natural Capital Investment Fund, and the NC Outdoor Recreation Industry Office. It is made possible through funding from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) — a regional economic development agency that represents a partnership of federal, state, and local government, and the Dogwood Health Trust — a private foundation based in Asheville, with the sole purpose of dramatically improving the health and well-being of all people and communities of 18 counties and the Qualla Boundary in Western North Carolina. Many additional partners will be engaged as the project grows and expands its reach.
